Meursault in the Côte de Beaune is famous for its full-bodied and complex Chardonnay wines. Together with Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, the area is a centre for excellent white wines. The town has a long history as one of Burgundy's main wine trading centres. Although Meursault has no Grand Cru vineyards, it boasts 20 Premier Crus and over 50 "lieux-dits". Young Meursault wines can be enjoyed as Meursault AOC, while 1st Cru wines often require longer ageing. Red wines are rare with only 10.66 hectares in production compared to 381 hectares for white wines.

Lucien le Moine, established by Rotem and Mounir Saouma in 1999, is known for their uncompromising approach to Burgundy wines. The couple, with roots in Israel and Lebanon, share a deep passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. After studying oenology in Montpellier and working as a cellar master in Israel, Mounir moved to Burgundy in 1995. Here, he worked as a cellar master for one of the largest negociants in the region and developed the idea for Lucien le Moine: to acquire top wines from selected producers and vinify them in his own cellar in Beaune. The vinification takes place exclusively in new oak barrels from Burgundy.
