What is Cognac?

Cognac is a protected designation of origin (AOC) and may only be produced in the official Cognac region. It is made primarily from the Ugni Blanc grape and must be aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of two years – but many are aged much longer. Cognac is known for its elegant balance of fruit, spice, wood and sweetness .

Is cognac the same as brandy?

No – Cognac is a type of brandy, but only produced in the Cognac region of France under strict regulations. Cognac is typically more complex and refined than generic brandy.

Should cognac be drunk at room temperature?

Yes – best between 18–22 °C. Neither ice cold nor hot. Use tulip-shaped glasses so the aromas gather and develop.

What is the difference between XO and VSOP?

The aging period. XO is aged for at least 10 years, VSOP for at least 4 years. XO is typically rounder, deeper and more complex – and therefore also more expensive.
