Louis Roederer – Cristal, terroir and biodynamic precision

Louis Roederer is one of the most renowned champagne houses based in Reims. Family-owned since 1776, Roederer is known for its independence, its own vineyards, and its dedication to terroir and precision. The style is balanced, mineral, and structured – with a focus on winemaking rather than just bubbles.

Own fields and biodynamics

Louis Roederer owns over 240 hectares of vineyards, which cover a large part of their needs. Fields in the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs provide access to top quality of both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. A large part of the fields are cultivated biodynamically – especially for the top wines such as Cristal. The living soil and the low yield create structured and terroir-influenced cuvées with aging potential.

Wines from Louis Roederer

  • Collection series: The successor to Brut Premier. Made with reserve wines from the solera system and base vintage. Focus on freshness, balance and depth. High quality non-vintage champagne.
  • Cristal: Prestige cuvée first made in 1876 for the Russian Tsar. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from biodynamic Grand Cru vineyards. Long bottle aging and extremely precise expression. Also available as Cristal Rosé.
  • Vintage and Rosé: Vintage champagne with greater structure and terroir character. Often from single vineyards and with low dosage.
  • Blanc de Blancs: 100% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Resilient, mineral and age-worthy.

The style of all Roederer wines is characterized by depth, lime minerality, low dosage and a clear fruit profile. Steel, oak and malolactic fermentation are used depending on the cuvée's goals.
