General description

Le Vermouth Blanc from Joseph Cartron is a semi-sweet white vermouth made in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, based on the Chardonnay grape. It is known for its intricate balance of fruit, spice and botanical complexity.

Ingredients and manufacturing process

Made from 100% Burgundy Chardonnay with an infusion of a total of 19 botanicals , including apricot, sloe, peach, orange, bay leaf, wormwood, cloves, nutmeg, licorice and elderflower.

Botanicals are macerated separately in a mixture of sugar beet distillate and water – typically 5–15 days for herbs and flowers, and up to several months for fruit.

Wormwood is distilled in copper stills and then blended with the filtered infusions and the Chardonnay base. Sugar is gradually added to achieve the desired balance.

Flavor and aroma profile

Color: Bright lemon yellow and brilliant.

Scent: Opens with fresh, floral notes, followed by spicy aromas of cloves and nutmeg.

Taste: Rich and balanced with fruity notes such as dried apricot and orange zest up front, followed by nuanced, spicy undertones. The finish is fresh, long and herbaceous with hints of marjoram, oolong tea and perhaps a touch of rancid notes (tamarind or sultanas).

Alcohol and style

Alcohol strength: 16.5% ABV , which gives a warm and full-bodied mouthfeel.

The style is semi-sweet with a refined balance of fruitiness, spiciness and a fresh herbal finish.

Usage & serving

Perfect on its own as an aperitif – served slightly chilled or on ice with a twist of citrus.

Also suitable in cocktails with dry and mature spirits, where its complexity can elevate the taste experience. Try it in a Metropole or a Scofflaw for a more elegant and deep repertoire.
