Pio Cesare Fides Barbera d'Alba 2016 is an excellent wine, the grapes of which originally come from the Colombaro field near Ornato in Serralunga d'Alba. Starting with the 2017 vintage, the grapes are sourced from the oldest vines in the Mosconi field in Monforte d'Alba. After the harvest and a careful selection, the wine undergoes fermentation and maceration in steel tanks for 25 days. It then matures for 18 months, mainly in large 2,000 liter botti and partly in French 225 liter barriques.
The wine presents a spicy body with nuances of rich fruit, wet wooden barrels, tar, bacon, graphite, ink, coal, marjoram, blackberries, cranberries, currants, plums, crushed stone, tobacco, leather and cinnamon and vanilla from the barrel aging. The palate reveals blueberries, black cherries, fresh fruit, a light bitterness, and is round and juicy with notes of earth, forest floor and a certain fullness. The wine is soft without tannins, yet complex, intense and muscular in a balanced way. An impressive Barbera.
