Champ-Gain is a vineyard located on the Montrachet slope, formerly a forest area. It is located west of Puligny and borders St. Aubin and Blagny. The field is located at an altitude of between 320 and 380 meters above sea level with an east-facing orientation, which provides plenty of sunlight and cool nights. This climate ensures a slow and steady ripening of the grapes. The soil is rich in clay and lime with a stony surface, which adds a finesse and minerality usually only found in Grand Cru wines.

François Carillon owns a 2-hectare plot in Champ-Gain, where the Chardonnay vines are over 50 years old. After pressing, the must is briefly aged in large tanks before being transferred to French oak barrels (20% new) for fermentation. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in barrels and a further 6 months in steel tanks. The wine is naturally decanted and lightly filtered before bottling.

Champ-Gain presents a fruity and aromatic nose with notes of citrus fruits, melon and mango. The taste is mineral, fresh and well-structured, and with oxygenation the wine develops more complex flavor nuances. The aftertaste offers slightly smoky notes and a pleasant acidity. It is ideal with shellfish such as lobster, crab claws and oysters or fish.
