Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne Romanée 1 Cru Les Chaumes 2020

Domaine Méo-Camuzet is one of the most renowned wine producers in Burgundy, established at the beginning of the 20th century by Etienne Camuzet. He gathered many of the famous vineyards that still make up the estate today, and was the last private owner of the Clos de Vougeot chateau before it was sold to the Confrérie du Tastevin. The parcels that Domaine Méo-Camuzet owns at Clos de Vougeot are among the most prestigious in this famous Grand Cru vineyard.

After Etienne Camuzet's death, his daughter Maria Noirot inherited the vineyards and bequeathed them to Jean Méo in 1959. Jean Méo continued to employ field workers and winegrowers who received half of the harvest as payment. One of these was the famous winemaker Henri Jayer, who set high standards for the wines of Méo-Camuzet.

While Jean Méo worked in Paris, he took care of the wine sales to local négociant. In 1985, the estate began selling the wines directly, and from 1988, Jean Méo also took responsibility for the vineyards. Since 1989, Jean-Nicolas Méo, Jean Méo's son, has managed the domaine together with Christian Faurois. They have maintained and expanded the ambitious goals of Domaine Méo-Camuzet, which remains among the leaders in Burgundy.

Méo-Camuzet's two plots of 1st Cru 'Les Chaumes' cover 2 hectares and are located at the foot of the famous vineyards of La Tâche and Malconsorts. Most of the vines were planted in the 1950s and 1970s. Vosne-Romanée 'Les Chaumes' is known for its natural finesse and softness, and requires a little extra work to highlight its structure and complexity. The wine is typically aged in barrel for 15-16 months.
