Dagromis Barolo, Angelo Gaja 2019

In 1995, Gaja acquired the Gromis vineyard in La Morra, which includes 10 hectares of vineyards in the famous Cerquio area of Barolo. The Barolo "Dagromis" is made from Nebbiolo grapes from vineyards in La Morra (Cerquio and Silio) as well as a plot in Serralunga, all with calcareous and clayey soils.

Spring 2018 began with cool and rainy conditions, but a warm period in April led to early bud burst. May and June brought rain and cold again, which required great attention from the GAJA team due to the risk of powdery mildew and gray mold. A hailstorm in July reduced the harvest by 30%. Sunny and stable weather conditions in August and September ensured good ripening conditions for the remaining grapes. Vinification takes place separately in steel tanks with the grapes' natural yeasts. After malolactic fermentation, the wines are aged for one year in barriques (30% new) and then for 18 months in large wooden barrels (botti).

Barolo Dagromis is known for its fruit concentration, complexity and structure. The wine presents an intense ruby red colour with aromas of dried flowers, wild roses, leather and white pepper. The palate is full and meaty with notes of blackberry, licorice, white pepper, wood, forest floor and a hint of mint. When the wine is young, it is recommended to decant it. Barolo Dagromis is an excellent choice for lamb, duck, game and strong cheeses.
