Crozes Hermitage 2019 from Paul Jaboulet

Crozes Hermitage Rouge Domaine de Thalabert is an exquisite red wine made from Syrah grapes from Paul Jaboulet Aîné's historic estate, which dates back to 1834. The vines, which are between 40 and 60 years old, produce a low yield of 25-30 hl/ha. The grapes are carefully picked by hand and transported carefully to minimize oxidation. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks and aged for one year in oak barrels. It presents a deep red color with aromas of cherries, wild berries and liquorice. The taste is complex with nuances of wild plums, spices and tar. This wine has excellent aging potential and is ideal with dishes with lamb, game or beef.

About Paul Jaboulet

After the death of Gérard Jaboulet in the late 1990s, the company faced challenges. In 2006, Paul Jaboulet Aîné was taken over by the Frey family, who also own vineyards at Château la Lagune in Bordeaux. Caroline Frey, a trained oenologist, has spearheaded the revitalization of the company. All vineyards have been updated and new plots in Côte Rôtie, Condrieu and Châteauneuf-du-Pape have been added. Since 2013, all vineyards have been cultivated organically, and from 2016, all domaine wines have been certified organic.

The Crozes Hermitage area

Crozes-Hermitage is the largest wine region in the northern Rhône with around 820 hectares of vineyards. The area stretches along the left bank of the river between the towns of Tain and Romans in 11 communes in the Drôme department. The vineyards face south and east and surround the Hermitage mountain. The red wines from here are made exclusively from the Syrah grape.
