Château Cos d'Estournel - 2nd Cru Classé 2016

Château Cos d'Estournel is the first château you come across when arriving in Saint-Estèphe from the south. The château is known for its unique architecture with pagoda-like towers reminiscent of Scottish distilleries. It produces one of Bordeaux's most excellent wines, which in good vintages can rival Château Lafite-Rothschild.

It was Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel who founded the château and the winery, and he discovered that the soil here produced better wines than elsewhere in the region. The wine became popular, including in India, and among its European admirers were Queen Victoria, the Tsar of Russia, Napoleon III, Jules Verne and Karl Marx.

Since 2000, Michel Reybier has been the owner of Château Cos d'Estournel and has invested in both the cellar and the château. Production has been optimized to minimize oxidation by transporting the must and wine using gravity.

The wine from Cos d'Estournel is among the best in the Médoc.
