Volnay Domaine Philippe Bouzereau 2021

The Volnay region is famous for its elegant red wines, often compared to those of Chambolle-Musigny. The soil in the area consists of limestone and crushed rocks, which contribute to the characteristic style of the wine. The area includes around 213 hectares of vineyards, more than half of which are classified as 1st Cru.

The Bouzereau family has been winegrowers in the Côte de Beaune for nine generations since the 18th century. In 1995, Philippe Bouzereau centralised his wine production at Château de Cîteaux. In 2006, his son Philippe took over the operation, and in 2010 the family sold Château de Cîteaux, but kept their vineyards. The family practices "Agriculture Raisonnée" and uses their own clones to enhance the terroir.

In 2015, Philippe Bouzereau switched to organic cultivation on the now 18 hectares of vineyards, and from the 2022 vintage the first wines have been certified organic. Philippe's brother, Charles Bouzereau, is also part of the family business.
