Gaja Dagromis 2016, Piedmont, Italy

In 1995, Gaja acquired the Gromis winery in La Morra, which included 10 hectares of vineyards in Cerquio, Barolo. Barolo Dagromis is made from Nebbiolo grapes from La Morra and Serralunga, where the soil is rich in lime and clay. The wine presents a deep dark red hue and a scent of violets, roses and white pepper. The taste is characterized by red grapefruits, raspberries, cranberries and subtle spices. Vinification takes place in Gaja's cellar in Barbaresco, where each plot is vinified individually. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks with the grapes' natural yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is first aged for a year in barriques (30% new) and then for 18 months in large wooden barrels. Dagromis has a solid structure and body, and can be stored for up to 10 years, but is also excellent to enjoy now. For young wines, decanting is recommended.

Angelo Gaja, who took over the winery in 1961 as the fourth generation, has had a significant impact on the global wine scene. Gaja wines are considered among the best in Piedmont, and Angelo Gaja is known for his uncompromising approach to quality. The vineyards are cared for with great care and harvest yields are kept low to ensure the highest quality. The fifth generation, daughters Gaia and Rossana, are now part of the company, but Angelo Gaja is still active. Gaja wines offer unique wine experiences with quality and taste that are worth every penny.
