Description

2018 Le Petit Cheval Grand Cru Saint-Emilion

Le Petit Cheval, the second wine from the château, exudes both grandeur and elegance. According to Pierre-Olivier Clouet, technical director and winemaker at Cheval Blanc, the aim for all 39 hectares of vineyards is to create a wine of the same high quality as the Cheval Blanc 'Grand Vin'. Le Petit Cheval is made up of the barrels that did not become part of the 'Grand Vin', which is reflected in the character and style of the wine.

The 2018 vintage is composed of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, with grapes from five different plots, and it is made using the same method as 'Le Grand Vin'. The tasting notes offer plums, blueberries, tobacco leaves, dried mushrooms, blackcurrants, licorice and cigar box. The wine is silky, juicy and elegant with a fine tannin structure.

It manages to stand side by side with 'Le Grand Vin' while also having its own unique character.

Robert Parker: 91 points
"With aromas of plums, sweet wild berries, rose petals, spices and cigar wrappers, the 2019 Le Petit Cheval is medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with soft tannins and juicy acids." Apr. 2022
