Valbuena is a wine that shows the signs of careful barrel aging, even after 24 months of bottle aging. It offers flavors of cherry, blackcurrant and plum. With a few more years of aging, it achieves an elegance comparable to the great wines of Burgundy, which is impressive for a wine from Ribera del Duero.
Valbuena 5º is the younger sibling of Vega Sicilia Unico and matures for 5 years before release. As the youngest wine from Vega Sicilia, it offers a good insight into the terroir of the area. Previously made with Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec have now been omitted and barrel ageing has been reduced from 50 to 30 months. The grapes are selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar, where the stems are removed before fermentation in stainless steel without the use of foreign yeast strains. The wine matures in both American and French barrels before bottling.
