Quinta do Noval Vintage Nacional 2016 is a rare Port wine, produced only in the most exceptional years since 1931 and in very small quantities. "Nacional" refers to the original Portuguese vines, which have never been grafted onto American rootstocks, making them resistant to Phylloxera. This special vineyard, which has 6,000 vines, is located right next to Quinta do Noval and has been free of Phylloxera since the 1880s. The wine is created from traditional Port grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Sousão. The yield from the Nacional vineyard is low, with only around 12 hectoliters per hectare. The grapes are hand-picked in late September or early October.
