Neil Ellis Grenache Piekenierskloof 2017 is an exquisite wine from South Africa, made from Grenache grapes grown in the Piekenierskloof region. The grapes are picked in March with a low yield of 22-25 hl/ha. The wine is fermented in open vats with frequent stirring and undergoes malolactic fermentation in small oak barrels. It is aged for 17 months in French barriques, of which 20% are new. The aroma offers notes of plums, herbs and vanilla. The taste is fresh and well-structured with nuances of ripe plums, blackberries and spices. Although it has a style reminiscent of Rhône wines, it carries a distinct overseas character. Ideal for serving with red meat, game or mature red cheeses.
