Laibach Chenin Blanc Sur Lie 2020

The wine comes from older, organically grown vineyards located in the excellent terroir of Stellenbosch. By using innovative winemaking techniques and focusing on low yields, we create a wine that can compete with wines from 50-year-old vineyards. The key is to achieve the right balance. We handpick the grapes early in the morning whenever possible. On the farm we have four different blocks of Chenin, each with its own unique character and a maturation time of three weeks. The grapes undergo natural fermentation in open vats with extended skin contact. We do not add any enzymes, yeast nutrients or fining agents. After pressing, the wine is aged in concrete eggs and larger barrels for 11 months without sulphur on the lees.

The wine has a light straw color and offers a complex flavor profile with notes of white nectarine, pineapple, yellow apples and dried herbs. The palate is rich and velvety with an impressive finish. It has a long, well-balanced acidity with lemon and lime nuances. Although ready to be enjoyed now, this wine will develop beautifully over time and has enough structure and complexity to last for 6-10 years. Enjoy it.
