Kanonkop is one of the most renowned wineries in South Africa, renowned for creating world-class red wines. In 2008, winemaker Abrie Breeslar was honored as the world's best.

Paul Sauer 2016 represents Kanonkop's flagship wine, composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 13% Merlot, grown in Stellenbosch. The vines are 28 years old and the soil is a mixture of granite, sand, silt and clay. The wine undergoes fermentation in open vats and is aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels.

The 2016 vintage offered ideal weather conditions, ensuring the grapes were at their optimum ripeness. Paul Sauer 2016 presents itself with a deep ruby ​​red color and a complex aroma of blackcurrant, plum, spices, tobacco and cedar. The palate is rich in fruit with notes of red and dark berries, and the wine is distinguished by a perfect balance between finesse, structure and softness. It has an aging potential of 20-25 years.
