Kanonkop Pinotage, Black label 2018

Kanonkop is a winery with a rich history, run by brothers Paul and Johann Krige. The name comes from a hill on the Simonsberg mountain where a cannon was fired in the 17th and 18th centuries to signal the arrival of ships in Table Bay. The winery began producing wine in 1973 and has since achieved great acclaim.

Kanonkop Pinotage, Black Label 2018, is an outstanding single-vineyard wine from Kanonkop Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Made from grapes from some of the oldest Pinotage vines, planted in 1953, this wine is a tribute to the heritage and complexity of the Pinotage grape.

The 2018 vintage presents remarkable depth and complexity. The aroma is characterized by black cherries, ripe plums and blackberries, with subtle notes of violets, cocoa, vanilla and spices. On the palate, the wine is powerful and concentrated with ripe tannins, a velvety texture and a perfectly balanced acidity.
