Kanonkop is a winery with a rich history, run by brothers Paul and Johann Krige, representing the fourth generation of the Krige family. The name "Kanonkop" comes from a hill on the Simonsberg mountain where a cannon was fired in the 17th and 18th centuries to signal the arrival of ships in Table Bay. The first wines from Kanonkop were launched in 1973.

Paul Sauer, who founded the winery, has played a crucial role in its development. This special edition of Paul Sauer from 2009 is presented in a gift box to mark the 50th anniversary of the Kanonkop wine brand. The wine is a harmonious blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, and it honors the winemakers Jan "Boland" Coetzee, Beyers Truter and Abrie Beeslaar.
