Dominio De Pingus, Pingus 2013

Pingus wine originates from two vineyards, Barrosso and San Cristóbal, where the vines are more than 65 years old. These 4.2 hectares provide grapes for around 30 barrels in the best years. After the frost damage in 2017, 2018 was an excellent year with both high quality and quantity.

Peter Sisseck experiments with vinifying whole grape clusters, and in 2018 almost half of the clusters were included with stems. The wine is matured in French oak barrels, and in 2018 part of the wine was aged in large barrels for 21 months before bottling without fining or filtering.

Robert Parker has praised the 2013 Pingus for its balance and elegance. Peter Sisseck established Dominio de Pingus in 1995, and the wine quickly achieved legendary status after Robert Parker's praise and high ratings. Four wines are produced: Pingus, PSI, Flor de Pingus and Amelia.

Peter Sisseck's principles focus on terroir, old vines, low yields, selective grape selection, manual destemming, small fermentation tanks, cold fermentation, and no fining or filtering.

Pingus is renowned for its quality and intensity and has achieved international recognition. The name "Pingus" comes from Peter's childhood nickname. The wine is matured in new oak barrels, and the high fruit concentration ensures that the wine is not overwhelmed by wood flavors. It is an elite wine, produced in limited quantities and sold at high prices. Flor de Pingus is another wine from the winery, but the grapes for this one come from other fields and are vinified separately.
