Domaine Anderson "Carpe Diem" Chardonnay 2019

The area
Located in Anderson Valley, Mendocino County, north of San Francisco, this area is famous for its cool climate and significant temperature fluctuations. These conditions are perfect for growing grapes such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Gewurztraminer. The area has a rich winemaking tradition dating back to the late 1800s, and experienced a renaissance in the 1970s and 1980s with prominent producers such as Husch, Navarro and Louis Roederer.

The manufacturer
Louis Roederer founded Roederer Estate in Anderson Valley in the 1980s with 234 acres of vineyards ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They later acquired Scharffenberger Cellars and launched the Carpe Diem series under Domaine Anderson. The winery cultivates three vineyards organically and biodynamically: Dach Vineyard, Walraven Vineyard and Pinoli Vineyards. Their philosophy is to create minimal intervention wines that reflect the Anderson Valley style with classic elegance.

The wine
Chardonnay Carpe Diem is made from grapes from Roederer's Anderson Valley estates. The grapes are picked at night and pressed immediately. The must undergoes spontaneous fermentation in steel tanks and French oak barrels and matures for 10 months in oak barrels. The wine presents a light golden color with aromas of lime blossom, honeydew melon, papaya, peaches, citrus fruits and grass. The taste is full-bodied, dry and structured.
