Valbuena is a fine wine from Ribera del Duero, renowned for its careful barrel ageing and rich flavours. It offers notes of cherry, blackcurrant and plum, and over time develops an elegance comparable to the great wines of Burgundy. The younger sibling of Vega Sicilia Unico, Valbuena 5º matures for a full 5 years before release, reflecting the unique terroir of Vega Sicilia.

Originally Valbuena 5º contained a blend of Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, but now only Tempranillo and Merlot are used. The barrel aging period has been reduced from 50 to 30 months. The grapes are selected with great care and the wine is fermented in stainless steel without the use of foreign yeast strains, before maturing in both American and French oak barrels.
